This beautiful soul is Agnes. The noisy shelter is stressing this poor girl out a lot. Though she can be shy at first, we have learned that treats are the way to her heart! Agnes picks up on training quickly because of this and has been working hard with the shelter staff and volunteers to learn lots of new things. She also takes the treats very gently. She would like to find a home that wants to continue showing her the ropes of being a good girl. She also loves to play with tennis balls! Agnes has been a bit picky about her shelter friends in doggie playgroups. She would definitely want to meet any potential canine siblings at the shelter for a staff led introduction before going home!We can tell you that building a bond and trust with a shy dog like Agnes in your home is wonderfully rewarding! She even becomes affectionate once you have become friends! Recently she got much needed breaks from the shelter on Dog Day Outs. Here's some of what we learned, "Agnes is a sweet and loving girl that will develop a memorable bond with you once she feels comfortable. She hiked for a total of 4.5 miles with energy left over. She walked leisurely and sometimes with pace but did not pull on her leash unmanageably. She wagged her tail the whole time during her massage. After some of the stress melted away, she laid calmly while observing the nature around her. She got up on her terms or when baby talk enticed her to seek cuddles and nose to nose embraces. She acted with good manners around women, men, and small loud children at a 25 ft distance. She never barked, jumped, or mouthed. She perked up when she saw or heard deer and other wildlife nearby but stayed in place and responded to initial cues well. She let a passerby on a bike pet her with ease." "Agnes is very happy in a home or running in the yard. She loves water. Very unexpectedly she jumped in our pond! She follows squirrels and birds from the window, she loves to look out. She is afraid of remote control toys but otherwise great with kids."Agnes needs a home without cats. Any future canine companions will need to meet before going home.Her ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.
