Adopt Apollo a Tan/Yellow/Fawn Mastiff / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed dog in
Location:
Kerhonkson, NY
Description:
Looking for a big bundle of love and energy? Apollo is your guy! This 80lb goofball came to us from the ACC where he had been found as a stray and brought in. He was terrified there, shaking and freezing when they would try to walk him. We had already agreed to help another dog from there, but when we saw how quietly and patiently he was sitting there, just waiting for someone to notice him, we knew we had to help him too! Medically, he came to us in some rough shape. He had pretty bad skin and an ear infection, so it seemed likely he had skin allergies - after changing his diet and treatment for his ear, he was already doing much better! He also came to us with a big mass on his back leg that we removed thinking that it was very possibly cancer. Fortunately, it turned out to be not cancer, but scar tissue! Our vet suspects that the scar tissue formed from being shot, and had noticed something suspiciously shaped like a bb gun pellet. He is now fully healed up and has gotten over his fear, so we are able to see his true personality is showing through! This big guy is an absolute sweetheart and bonds extremely closely with his people, but based on what we’ve seen, we think it is unlikely he’s ever lived indoors or experienced the love of a family before. He is a high energy dog who would do best in an active home without any young children (mostly because he is likely to accidentally knock them over in his excitement). He has been doing great in his housebreaking and we are actively working on his separation anxiety and he has come leaps and bounds from where he was when he first arrived. Because of his energy levels and how he was in the ACC around other dogs, we are looking to place him as an only pet. If you are interested in adopting Apollo, you can fill out an application for him on our website, waywardranch.org!
