05/24/24 05:25DOG DAY OUT REPORT Today I Made two new friends who took me on a long walk outside in the sunshine! I was so happy and excited - I smiled the entire time! I love to walk like it’s my mission. I am focused the entire time - not even a treat can distract me! But once I get to the finish line, I love to give lots of snuggles and roll all over my walkers. I had such a good morning that I didn’t want to say goodbye. Hopefully I will get out again soon!Three Words to Describe Me are: Smiley, Cute, Enthusiastic Notes from My Walker: Mike is SUCH a happy guy! He just has a constant look on his face that he’s enjoying whatever you are and smiling the entire time. He has such a cute little face we thought for 3 years old, he still has a puppy-look to him which makes him even sweeter. I had met Mike before at the shelter where he was chatty and energetic so I had assumed he would be the same at the park, but Mike was a pleasant surprise. He was very well behaved in the car and wanted to look out the window or get pets the whole time the way there. On the way back, he just napped the entire time!His leash skills are great for a dog who doesn’t get to go on regular long walks and likes to show his energetic side in his kennel. He pulled from excitement a bit at the beginning, but after about 15 minutes, he settled in and was completely focused on his walk. We made comments that he maybe was imagining himself pulling a dog sled in Alaska! Mike showed no interest in other dogs or people, he walked by them without even a flinch. Ducks, geese, and squirrels on the other hand, Mike is very interested and shows prey drive. He might not be a fit for a house with smaller animals he’d like to chase.We had such a nice morning with Mike and found him to be a very bubbly and sweet boy. I am glad I got to spend time with him outside of the shelter where he could really shine. He is proof that what you see of them in their kennels isn’t always accurate to how they are out in the real world. Mike deserves someone who will be patient with him while he learns basic commands. Someone who is active enough to take him on long walks where he can pretend he is a working dog up north. Someone who would love to snuggle into his fur and tell him what a very special boy he is!
