Border Collie-Great Pyrenees Mix Dog for Adoption in Hamilton, Montana, 59840 USNickname: Mocha Posted Breed: Border Collie / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 275. The following is from her former owners: We got her as a puppy while we lived on four acres. Started training crate and recall immediately and introduced her to an ecollar at 9 months. She has a great recall off leash with her ecollar through most distractions. She has never been exposed to crowds/high traffic areas. She has been through several moves with us, mostly in apartments. Mocha is easily excitable and a very vocal girl (several people have assumed she was part husky). She is a submissive player with her one dog friend she has, always exposing her belly and letting him win. She lovesss being outside in the mountains or at the lake with us. She will chase sticks/rocks in the water and is a great swimmer. We have worked with a couple trainers on her reactivity toward strangers and dogs, we just haven't been able to keep up and maintain her training. The same trainers started her on scent work (sheds), and she has a FANTASTIC nose - which leads her to finding all the food our kids leave throughout the house. She has the neediness and softness of a border collie, but definitely guards like an LGD. She is demanding with the attention she wants and tends to match the energy of those around her. She has only ever been fed by hand or in her kennel, but she has a super high food drive (not really any toy drive). She has growled and snapped at our youngster for trying to move her food bowl before she thought she was done. She has shown discomfort around kids other than ours. She slinks around them and gets nippy (even after several times of seeing them), so I've just put her in her kennel when they are over. Mocha can walk slowly on a lead when it's enforced correctly. We have the most success with a prong/slip lead and food, and she obviously does better when she gets more consistent walks. She has cute little chatters/chomps with her teeth when she really wants to get to another dog. She will definitely take a mile if she is given an inch and will push people to see what they will let her get away with (specifically being pushy with attention). When we have her meet other dogs, we have to convey that we are completely in charge. If its in her house, we have her stay on her place (with corrections if she leaves). She is VERY vocal, but we don't let her leave her place for a couple hours until she is visibly relaxed and no longer triggered. We've had to keep her separate for a couple days before she's been fine and ignores/coexists with the dogs. If its in a different environment where she knows we don't have control, she will lunge/bark and snap after the dogs. She's been more testy with females than males. She's never been able to coexist with females, but when the introduction is over with males she is a cute little player. She was/is definitely under socialized. She's never been exposed to cats, (*4/6/2024 a volunteer exposed her to cats today and she was fine) but she likes chasing squirrels. She loves chewing on bones and squeaky toys, and running!! She could run for hours. When she gets out, she doesn't take off, and she's never had the chance to go after a dog so I don't know if she would chase it or not. The couple times she's gotten loose without us meaning to, she's just run circles around the people she's excited to see. Attention and food are her biggest motivators. She's very sensitive to harsh tones. She's never given the vet or groomers any problems (the groomers have been out of their house) and I have always trimmed her nails. I believe she's had her teeth cleaned a couple times at the groomers and has been fine. She doesn't get defensive over any part of her being touched. She has a nice off switch in the house (she could sleep all day), but I've never seen her relax outside unless its at night while camping. We utilize the "place" command quite a bit. She tends to be more possessive with other dogs around her water than her food, although I've never let other dogs around her food. ******* Since being at Old Farm Kennels we have found that she knows a ton of tricks...she seems relaxed and enjoys attention, especially walks or time out with volunteers.
