Rescued from a gas station where his people abandoned him, Canyon waited patiently for months, hoping for someone to come to his aid. When we learned of his plight we rallied to his rescue and he was welcomed into a loving foster home where he could finally feel safe and loved. Canyon is a gentle and affectionate soul. He adores his foster mom as well as the other dogs in his home. He is an extrovert with dogs and meets new canines with ease and comfort. Always quick with a tail wag and not too boisterous. At night and when his foster mom is away, Canyon is comfortable in his crate and does not have any accidents. He is not super in love with being in the crate but he is ok. He is a tiny bit uncertain on leash but he just needs a little time and some additional outings and he will be awesome! This little guy seems to enjoy the outdoors and likes to peruse the yard, sniff the different scents and take in the world. He smiles at his foster mom which melts her heart. You can tell how appreciative he is! The vet indicated Canyon is around 18 months and he is quite small weighing only 25 pounds. We think he is a Chihuahua / Shepherd mix. Canyon promises to be a faithful companion who will never let you forget the difference you made in his life. **Canyon looks big in his pictures but he is only 25 lbs per his vet records. Here is a nice update from Canyon's foster mom! Canyon loves other dogs. He’s met my male dog, who is 90 pounds, and a 50-pound adult female while loose in the yard. He approaches them calmly with a friendly, loose body language, licking their faces. He is still reticent to be picked up, but he will allow it. When he knows I’m coming to get him, he runs from me into some tall weeds or a kennel, then pancakes and whimpers softly as I pick him up. He hasn’t played with toys I’ve given him, but loves to be outside and tolerates being in a crate, but you can tell he’s not a fan. No thrashing or frantically trying to get out, just giving me that look like I’m imprisoning him. He will walk on a leash, although he is still a little nervous about it.
