Dachshund Mix Dog for Adoption in Des Moines, Iowa, 50325 USNickname: Ozzie Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Ozzie is a 7.5-year-old, male, purebred miniature Dachshund. He arrived from Oklahoma on May 27. At that time Ozzie was severely obese weighing almost 24 lbs. He is down to 20 lbs. now and is still on his diet and exercise routine. His weight should be closer to 14 lbs. Ozzie a sweetheart! He loves his foster momma the most but is also very friendly to all people, including kids of all ages. He enjoys being outside as long as people are outside with him. He is currently being fostered with a family that lives on an acreage and he loves to ride on the 4-wheeler and golf cart. He will spend hours outside sniffing around and just hanging out with his foster momma as she gardens. Ozzie is not good on a leash so he would not make a good walking partner right now. He would prefer a fenced yard where he can roam around with freedom from a leash or tie out. Ozzie is not fully house trained and has frequent accidents if he is not taken outside regularly. He wears a diaper most of the time inside the house. He is a typical stubborn Dachshund that comes when he wants to and has selective hearing lol. That being said, he is an easy dog to have around and is pretty quiet most of the time. He hardly ever barks but he does whine a lot when he wants something. He went on his first camping excursion in early June, and he did really well. He had to have his own chair sitting right next to his foster momma, can you say spoiled? Ozzie does well with other dogs, big and small. He doesn't interact with them much. He was introduced to cats recently and acted like they weren't even there. He is not kennel trained and will whine and cry if he is put in one. He has shown interest in squeaky toys but only for a short period of time. Ozzie's best fit family is one that is home more than away, spends time outdoors, has a fenced yard, and can continue his weight loss journey by not giving in to his begging and encourage him to be active.
