Sheena Sheltie, Shetland Sheepdog Adult Female
Price:
$250
Location:
Blaine, MN
Description:
Hi, my name is Sheena. I came to Minnesota Sheltie Rescue because my busy family did not have time for me. I just want a person who will love me forever, give me a lot of attention, help me with my fears, and build my confidence. We focus on local adoptions to families near Minneapolis, MN or Fargo, ND, as this is where our volunteers are located, and a home visit to your home is part of the approval process. AGE: 4 yearsSIZE: 40 lbs. Sheena is an oversized Sheltie - most likely Sheltie/CollieTEMPERAMENT: Sheena bonded very quickly with her foster mom and likes to sit next to her on the sofa when she reads or watches TV. When the household is quiet, Sheena is quiet. When a visitor comes she will bark until shes comfortable with that person. She reacts to noises and things outside.FENCE: Sheena needs a home with a fully fenced yard. She feels safer when foster mom is outside with her. Our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended, not even in a fenced yard, when the adopter is not home.DOGS: Sheena gets along with the other dog in her foster home and initiates play. She would also do fine as an only dog in the home with someone who has plenty of time to play with her and provide her with exercise. CATS: Unknown. Sheena has not been exposed to cats.KIDS: Sheena is very nervous around children. We have determined she needs an adult only home.CRATE-TRAINED: Yes. Sheena will initially protest that you are leaving and then she settles down.HOUSETRAINED: Sheena is reliably house trained.OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Sheena has not had formal training. Her foster mom has been working with her and she has learned a few things with the help of treats. Her foster mom says shes pretty smart, and positive reinforcement training at home, or formal positive reinforcement classes once she has bonded, will help to build her confidence. LEASH MANNERS: Sheena has not had experience walking on a leash. She needs a long period of adjustment in her new home. Once she feels safe inside her home and yard, her new family will need to practice walking her in the fenced yard before taking her on walks away from home.CAR RIDES: Sheena rides fine in a crate in the car for her safety. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Sheena is young and active and needs opportunities to run off energy in the yard sometimes. Inside, she follows her foster mom around the house. She does not know how to play with toys or balls yet.BARKING: Sheena will use her Collie-sized voice to alert you to loud noises, vehicles or people if she sees them outside.HEALTH: No known health issues. She was spayed and had a dental after arriving in rescue. She takes daily medication to help with anxiety.EXPERIENCED HOME: Sheena needs an adopter who has experience with shy, fearful or nervous dogs, and who understands positive reinforcement, desensitization and counter-conditioning to help Sheena to feel safe and help her to be the best girl she can be!Sheena is a very nice girl who is looking for love and a forever person. She will make a great companion for any adopter who understands her quirks and is willing to help her with them.Sheena's adoption fee is $250.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental while in foster care, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. Please read our Adoption Guidelines prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions. ***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care. We focus on local adoptions to families near Minneapolis, MN or Fargo, ND, as this is where our volunteers are located, and a home visit to your home is part of the approval process. We encourage everyone outside of these areas to look for a local shelter or rescue group from which to adopt:https://www.nationalsheltierescueassociation.org/groups.html. Please keep in mind that if you apply to adopt a Sheltie and your application is approved, you will be asked to travel to the foster home(s) to meet the dog(s) prior to an adoption.*** Not ready to adopt, but you still would like to help a Sheltie in need? Sponsor a Sheltie! We gratefully accept donations of any size, and donations to MNSR are tax-deductible since we are a 501(c)3 not for profit organization: https://givemn.org/organization/Minnesota-Sheltie-RescueIf you are interested in fostering a Sheltie and have a fenced yard, please email XXXX@mnsheltierescue.org.
