Meet Greta Garbo, a young, beautiful girl who’s just waiting to be discovered so she can become the star in your life! Greta Garbo, who also goes by GG, is just 10 months old, but she’s already been through so much to make her debut on this platform as a Dixie Girl foster dog. In fact, her life so far sounds like the makings of a Hollywood movie! Found at a gas station as a young puppy, an old man took her home and gave her a famous name. Shortly after arriving in her new home, GG’s house burned down and then her new dad had a stroke. He was forced to surrender poor GG, and she ended up spending her days and nights at a vet clinic, until one fateful day when a crying woman arrived to pick up the ashes of her dead dog. The woman was dogless for the first time in her adult life, and when she learned about Greta Garbo, the stars aligned. She started getting GG from the clinic every single day and taking her on adventures, showing GG a world she had never really known. GG’s day-time foster mom also sent her to live with a dog trainer for 5 weeks. GG now knows the meaning of “sit,” “down,” “place,” “wait,” “here,” “break” and “no.” The trainer has offered to continue GG’s training with her new adopter for no charge. GG is very intelligent and very food motivated. She also really wants to please her human, so continuing her training should be a rewarding experience for her new owner. GG is a high-energy, joyful dog who loves to play and run. She’s great with other dogs, but she would do best in a home with another dog who can tolerate her energy level, or she would be a wonderful only dog as well. She wouldn’t mind being the center of attention! GG is likely a terrier mix and currently weighs 45 lbs. We think she won’t get too much bigger, so she’ll be a nice medium-size dog. GG is looking for an active family who wants to take her on long walks. She loves to get out and see the world! She’d prefer a home with no small children. While GG doesn’t mind kids, certain quick movements or loud noises or strange objects can startle her. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!Adoption processA potential adopter will submit a application. A vet reference is very helpful and will speed the adoption process along. Once approved, a phone interview will be conducted and the adopter will sign a contract. Transport will then be scheduled to bring the new pet home.Shelter locationThe majority of our dogs/cats are fostered in Alabama. We have wonderful foster families that contact all applicants to answer any additional questions or provide more photos and videos. Once a application is approved our dogs/cats are transported north to their new families. We use a private transport that is USDA certified and Licensed. All dogs are fully vetted and will travel with a Alabama Health Certificate and their medical records. We are a 501C3 rescue. We can offer references upon request.
