Lovely Carrie Ann is a 12-year-old girl, who looks and acts much younger. Active, agile, and petite at 12 lbs., she loves exploring her foster parent's fenced yard and sunbathing on the deck. She fit in easily with her canine foster sisters and would do well with any low-energy, respectful dog. This smart rat terrier is house-trained, listens intently when you're talking to her, and knows many verbal cues like sit, stay, off, and up. Being food motivated, she's easy to teach. She has the cutest lower lip quiver when anticipating a treat. However, she's generally hand shy and may hesitate to take a treat from your hand. She doesn't like being 'grabbed' and will need to be treated with patience. Taking slow baby steps will earn Carrie's trust and ensure she doesn't feel threatened. Once Carrie settles in, she'll follow you everywhere. She'll jump on the bed or chair and lie beside you or on your lap just to be near you. She would prefer to sleep with you at night but will sleep in a crate if you prefer. Carrie has skin allergies which are easily treated with an injection (approximate cost = $60) every 4-8 weeks. She's a great watch dog, who will stop barking with encouragement, but she may not be best suited for an apartment. Carrie would like a quiet home with retired or work-at-home adopters. She's a wonderfully lovable girl, who just needs someone to care for her while respecting her space. Having never lived with children of any age, she would do best in a home without them. Applicants should live close enough to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to make several visits to help Carrie transition to new new home and new human.
