Hadley is a seven-year-old, 80-pound lab/shepherd mix that came into a shelter as a stray a couple of months ago. Poor Hadley was the picture of neglect and in addition to heartworms, which the shelter treated, he also had ears that were so thick from chronic infection and itching that they wouldn’t lie flat anymore. The shelter got the ear infection under control, probably for the first time in his life, and did surgery to reduce the swelling on one ear flap, which now is permanently flipped back and makes him look even cuter. We took him to our vet and did some routine diagnostics and bloodwork, and, as it turns out, he’s in pretty good shape. While at the shelter, they tested him with other dogs and kids, and he was great. As much as the staff wanted him to find a home, they were sad to see him leave. We have him in a foster now, and he’s housetrained and crate trained, and life is good!
