American Bandogge mastiff Dog for Adoption in Des Moines, Iowa, 50325 USNickname: Carla Posted Breed: Mastiff / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Carla is a one and a half year old, female, Mastiff /Pitbull terrier mix weighing around 72 lb. She was on the run in the Carlisle area for at least a week before being trapped and taken in for a 7-Day stray hold with a foster. She has been decompressing for a couple of weeks in foster care. Carla has been fully vetted and is scheduled for her spay on May 22. Carla is house trained and kennel trained, and she does free roam in the foster home for the most part. She has gotten along with the three cats, two Great Danes, and young puppy in her foster home. She has displayed an occasional resource guarding of toys but it has not been a huge issue so far. Potential adopters will need to be aware of this potential and take steps to monitor and prevent issues with other dogs. Carla loves to play in the fenced yard with her foster dog siblings and toys. Carla has been on some leash walks and has done very well. She seems to have experience with leash walks. She is continuing to decompress and adjust in her foster home and every day gets better. She is very cautious with meeting new people but time and patience has proven to be key with her comfort and adjustment. Since we don't know her history with children, we are recommending no children under the age of 14. Carla would do best with a fenced yard so she has the freedom to run and play. Since she is timid and leary of new people she should be considered a potential flight risk until she settles into her new home.
